Hello readers, researchers, family, friends, followers, Marines, and those who have reached this page entirely by accident.
In a somewhat unexpected but entirely welcome turn of events, I will be starting graduate school very shortly, pursuing a master’s degree in military history. While this is great news for my own professionalism and credibility (and how well I can relate the stories of these Marines), it also means that I won’t have very much time to update the site. My job keeps me busy from 50-60 hours per week, and school work on top of that will be – well, let’s call it “interesting” and see where that goes.
The names of the currently missing Marines have been added to the site under the Browse By Name tab. If you see a name you recognize and have anything at all to contribute – a photo, a story, a correction, a question, anything at all – please don’t hesitate to email me (webmaster@ablecompany24.com) or just leave a comment and I’ll do what I can to be of service.
Thank you all for your support, and for your continuing help in telling the stories and preserving the memories of these brave men.
Yours,
Geoffrey
Hello Geoffrey,
Congrats on your continuing education decision. I too, am giving strong consideration to pursuing an additional Masters, also in military history, probably from Norwich University.
I wrote to you a couple months back about using your website information on some of the bio work I am doing on Find-A-Grave…but never heard back. I write bio’s and memorials for Marines who died in the war (I also do some for other services but mainly Marines). I am currently working on the men killed on the Goettge Patrol, of which you have done considerable work. At the end of each one of these, I make a note that a large part of the info I used was based on info on your website. While the info on what happened is well documented, some of the individual things are not so easily found.
I have stopped adding anything to the memorials pending hearing from you. Please let me know.
Semper Fi,
Rick Lawrence, MSgt., USMC/USAFR (RET)
MSgt Lawrence – mea maxima culpa for not replying to your earlier message. I’ve sent you an email.
Cheers,
Geoffrey
Best of luck to you, sir. This blog is a wonderful effort on your part. Have you heard about the three Marines they found on Guadalcanal recently?
Oops! Strike that! I wrote too soon!
