CIRCUMSTANCES OF LOSS
Corporal Beecher served with the 2nd Raider Battalion (Carlson’s Raiders) during an amphibious raid on Makin Island. Beecher reportedly survived the main assault, and was lost at sea on 18 August 1942, as the Marines withdrew to the USS Nautilus.
Corporal Beecher was officially declared dead on 19 August 1943.
