Private Hansen participated in the amphibious assault on Tulagi, British Solomon Islands, on 7 August 1942. He was killed in action on the first day of the battle; the cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound in the chest.
Battalion muster rolls reported that Hansen was “killed in action on Tulagi… and buried on island.” However, his remains were never identified after the war.
