Corporal Richard Kenny served as a non-commissioned officer with G/2/2nd Marines during the battle of Guadalcanal.

He was killed in action on 13 January 1943, the day the American forces commenced their final offensive against Japanese holdouts on the island’s north coast. His body was not recovered from the battlefield.
