Corporal Morris was captured in the fall of Corregidor and interned at one of the Cabanatuan prison camps located on the island of Luzon, Philippines. He contracted dysentery not long after his capture, and succumbed to the disease in later October 1942.

News of Morris’ fate was not received by American authorities until 15 May 1945; for administrative purposes, his date of death was set as 31 October 1942. Although reportedly buried in the camp cemetery, Corporal Morris’ remains were never identified after the war.
