Research Requests
Missing Marines was founded on 7 December 2011, with the express goal of providing the most detailed stories of unaccounted-for servicemen.
Since then, we have provided research assistance to families and veterans, historians and authors, reporters and media outlets, and non-profit and government organizations that bring missing personnel home. And we would be proud to assist with your search.
While we specialize in WWII-era Marine Corps documentation, we welcome questions about service members from any branch or any era, regardless of MIA status.
However – this is very important – we DO NOT have the ability to assist with active missing persons cases.
If you know of a missing individual who may be in danger, PLEASE contact law enforcement.
Our Services
Personnel Histories
Wondering about an individual’s time in the service? We can provide a service summary drawn from military documents, contemporary references, and an expanding collection of rare reference books.
Military Records
Missing Marines has built a collection of archival materials including:
• Marine Corps casualty cards
• Individual Deceased Personnel Files (IDPFs)
• Official Military Personnel Files (OMPFs)
• X-Files of non-identified remains
We don’t have everyone – and currently can’t get more – but we might have the one you need.
Archival Media
Get a feel for the war with high-resolution images scanned from a variety of sources. All archival images are in the public domain.
Our collection is mostly drawn from NARA RG-26, RG-80, and RG-127.
