The isolated grave of PFC Robert Wray Fox stood a few yards from the shoreline of Beach Red Two.

Fox, a nineteen-year-old Missourian serving with H/2/2nd Marines, was killed in action on 20 November 1943 by a gunshot wound in the stomach. Although his death was confirmed by his battalion, his gravesite went unreported in Marine Corps records.

The 604th Quartermaster Graves Registration Company located PFC Fox’s grave and positively identified his remains. He was reinterred in Lone Palm Cemetery Plot 2, Row 10, Grave 12 on 5 April 1946, and ultimately buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
