Corporal Allen M. Berge landed with his company on Betio, Tarawa atoll, on 20 November 1943. Following the battle, he was reported on unit muster rolls as having been wounded in action and evacuated to an unknown vessel for medical treatment.

Efforts to determine Berge’s whereabouts were unsuccessful, and his ultimate fate is unknown. He was officially declared dead on 21 November 1944.
