Hi, Geoff. I only know that his father, Claude, and my great-grandfather, William C. Shouse, were brothers. Claude had no children himself, but I was hoping that perhaps someone who knew him is still alive who could share anything or that I might be able to trace other Shouse descendants through his brothers.
William And Claude also had a brother named Boyd and a sister named Lula. Their parents were Wainwright Shouse and Susan Berry.
I only know that certain members of this family eventually moved to Fresno, California and ran a place called “Owl Cleaners”.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to remember Claude and all the others who lost their lives 70 years ago this month.

Thanks, Denise. If any more information is forthcoming, I’ll add it here.
You might be interested in the book “Ship Of Ghosts” by James Hornfischer – and the USS Houston Association might be able to help with more information as well: http://www.usshouston.net/

Hi Denise,
My name is Patty and my father, John, was Claude’s youngest brother. Claude Shouse Sr. was my grandfather. Claude Sr. and his wife, Anna, had 4 boys of whom Claude Jr. was the oldest. And yes, he went missing during WW ll and 3 years later was declared dead. My dad talked about that tragedy all throughout his life, until he passed away in 2008. I was trying to find information on my uncle when I came upon this site. I hope you will see this message. I will check back periodically.
