I gave you a salute when I visited the Arizona.
Your cousin, son of Alpha Velma Belt Swigert, who was the daughter of William Henry Belt and Harriet Susanna Brown.

Everett Belt, Jr. was my Great Uncle, since Iโ€™m the granddaughter of Donald Ralph Belt, Sr., PFC Everett Beltโ€™s younger brother. My grandfather & his brother William (my beloved uncle Bill) both enlisted just after Pearl Harbor and losing their older brother, both fighting in the Pacific theater of WWII, which I know haunted my grandfather for the rest of his life. Strangely enough, even though Iโ€™ve lived my whole life in the Washington DC area, I happened to marry a man who coincidently also graduated from Kirkwood High School, as Everett, my Grandfather, and Uncle Bill all did. I know that the legacy & sacrifice of Everett Belt, despite his body never being recovered aboard the Arizona, was deeply felt & continues to be mourned by everyone in his surviving family to this day.
