CIRCUMSTANCES OF LOSS PFC Robert K. Holmes served as a member of the Marine detachment aboard the battleship USS Oklahoma. He lost his life when his ship went down at the battle of Pearl Harbor. His remains were recovered, but could not be identified, and Holmes was ultimately buried in a mass grave as an unknown.In 2015, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency approved the exhumation of the USS Oklahoma unknowns. PFC Holmes was officially accounted for 9 May 2018. |
