Circumstances Of Loss
Corporal Robert Pearcy served as an artilleryman with the 10th Marines. During the fall of 1942, his battery of 75mm pack howitzers was attached to the 8th Marines on garrison duty at Tutuila, Samoa.
On 18 October 1942, Pearcy drowned in Pago Pago harbor about 600 yards from the Feleti school. The circumstances of the incident are not known, but all attempts to rescue or recover the young NCO were unsuccessful.
